It's a polymorph spell. That you could use on literally any target, living or not.
So if he sort of knows how to do that, then he must know at least something about magic and how it works. Right?
Aah, I avoided that one, fortunately. But not sure if that would be the right type of magic to look into.
Honestly what we'd need to know is what this magic runs on. In my world it's aether, but the energy here is different. I sit from the earth itself? The air? A product of something else? After that it would be creating a device that can pull directly from that source that we in turn can draw from.
But there would be ramifications for such a thing.
